Despite decreasing use volumes, there are still nearly <strong>4,000 notified uses<\/strong> across sectors like <strong>automotive, chemicals, transport, and packaging<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Challenge of Substitution<\/strong><br \/>\nCurrently, <strong>no direct substitutes<\/strong> match Cr(VI)\u2019s performance. Alternatives either <strong>lack technological maturity<\/strong>, are <strong>less effective<\/strong>, or <strong>still pose health risks<\/strong>. Adoption would require <strong>major investment<\/strong> and could <strong>raise production costs by 10\u201320%<\/strong>. ECHA also warns that <strong>imports of Cr(VI)-treated goods<\/strong> could undermine the effectiveness of the restriction unless regulated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Steps<\/strong><br \/>\nIf adopted, companies will face a difficult choice: <strong>invest in compliance or cease production<\/strong>.
